Our Philosophy
Therapy shouldn’t be one-size-fits-all. Some days you need a deep dive into your family history; other days you just need practical tools to calm a racing heart. Together, we will build a flexible, collaborative space that evolves alongside you.My work is humanistic, client-centered, and integrative. I believe you already carry important wisdom about your own life, and that feeling genuinely accepted and understood in the therapy room can be a powerful foundation for change. At the same time, I recognize that lasting change often requires more than the therapy relationship alone—especially when outside circumstances make growth harder. That is why our work includes both deep relational support and practical, skills-based tools. We draw from reflective, insight-driven conversation, practical cognitive strategies, and gentle body-based tools so that you can build greater clarity, emotional regulation, and agency—resources you can carry with you outside of session.Whether you’re carrying anxiety or heaviness, navigating a major life shift, learning how to set boundaries, moving through grief, or simply wanting to know yourself more kindly, I meet you in the middle of real life.No rigid agendas. Just careful, collaborative work that honors both your inner world and the realities of the world around you. If you’re looking for support that feels human, respectful, and steady, I would be honored to hold that space with you.
Meet Your Counselor
Hello, I’m Kaitlyn McCarthy, LPC Associate, practicing under the clinical supervision of April Schoonover, LPC-S.I established Meaningful Counseling to move away from rigid, checklist-driven approaches to mental health and instead offer a highly tailored clinical experience. I believe that sustainable growth requires nuanced attention and a deeply collaborative partnership.By keeping my practice caseload intentionally small, I am able to show up fully for each individual, ensuring your treatment adapts entirely to the pace you need—whether you are looking for focused, efficient tools to navigate an immediate challenge, or a deeper space to process long-standing patterns.I chose to focus my work here because traditional talk therapy often only scratches the surface, True, lasting resolution requires looking at the whole person and bridging the gap between your thoughts, emotional experiences, and physical well-being.By integrating traditional talk therapy and cognitive exploration with trauma-informed, body-based somatic approaches, we look beyond surface-level symptoms to address how mental patterns, chronic stress, and past trauma impact your daily vitality. Together, we can unpack how early family systems shape your current adult relationships, career boundaries, and parenting styles, giving you practical strategies to release anxiety and find greater clarity. In our sessions, you can expect a grounded, calm presence and a sophisticated, collaborative framework. I earned both my Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Tarleton State University, and I hold national certification as an NCC.This rigorous clinical foundation is further enhanced by my continuing education and advanced study in trauma-informed care, somatic wellness, and family dynamics. Outside of my clinical practice, you can usually find me immersed in the latest psychology literature or enjoying time at home with my family.
